Elementary School and Cheese!

Today we went to the Elementary school where we talked to children ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade. After introducing ourselves, we answered a range of funny questions from the kids about all sorts of things ranging from how we say fruit names, to cats and sharks. We joined them for lunch (chicken nuggets) and then headed into town to the local cheese factory called Hooks. We learnt about how the cheese is made, as Wisconsin is known as the Dairy State of America. We have now finished at 1 o'clock, ready to start the weekend early with our hosts.

Middle School & Gundry House

Yesterday some of the middle school kids came up to the High School library, and we had to introduce ourselves and give a short PowerPoint about Cornwall. We compared different items which we have different names for, and then answered questions that the middle school kids had for us. After lunch, we headed into town to visit Gundry house, where we got a private tour with a sweet lady called Bertie. Then we went to the public library where we looked into the genealogy of our own families, friends and host families. We had a quick look around some of the artsy shops and galleries, before heading home, ready to go to the Cuba City volley ball game where unfortunately, our 'Cornish luck' had ran out.

Madison and Pot Luck Supper

Today we visited the Wisconsin State Capitol Building, starting with the observation deck which we believe was 90 feet high with a great view of Madison, and a tour of the building. After a quick shop, we headed to Ian's for a pizza lunch. In the afternoon, we visited the Henry Vilas Zoo, and on the way home there was a quick blizzard of snow! In the evening, we had a Pot Luck supper at the congregational church, during which we all had to introduce ourselves to all the host families and other important people who had helped during the trip. This made us nervous but it was nice to see everyone!

Cave of the Mounds

We went to Cave of the Mounds in Blue Mounds, WI. It was a very interesting tour, with a informational film to begin with to teach us how the cave was formed and discovered. The rock formations were beautiful and for good luck we were kissed by the water droplets from the cave.
Later we had a tour of Mineral Point itself and it was funny how much it looks like Redruth. This was then followed by a tour of Pendarvis... not the castle ;)

Love from all of us xxx

Amber and Jess's first two days in Mineral Point

Our first two days here in Mineral Point have been amazing! On Thursday, we spent the day at school, then we went to volleyball practice with our host Natalie, then onto Pizza Hut for a dinner buffet, and then to the MPHS football game which was honestly incredible! We had so much fun in the student section joining in with various cheers. Today, after taking a walk through the woods and having a lovely lunch at Biba Farm in Highland, we went out on the Chubb family boat down Ludden Lake. The views were just beautiful, and we can't wait to see what the rest of the trip holds for us! Here are a few of the pics of our time in Mineral Point so far.

We have arrived!!

After nearly 24 hours of non stop travel we have arrived safely in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, USA.
The minibus ride from Redruth was long and with the M4 being closed we had to make a lengthy detour. However we arrived in good time at Heathrow. The flight was good, the food was passable and the in flight entertainment was great!
By the time we landed in Heathrow we felt as though it was late at night but the local time was only 7ish. Mr Nevers who came to Cornwall and another parent came to collect us. It is a further 3  1/2 hour drive from Chicago to Mineral Point and most of us succumbed to sleep on the way!
Finally we arrived at the school around 11pm local time. Our hosts met us and we went our separate ways. We are here, tired but excited to be in MP.
